Haiti Earthquake Response
In light of the 7.0 earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday last week, a few locals have taken upon themselves to help raise money/donations to help in the relief. Take the time to look at these few pages or go out and actually participate.
MercyME’s Haiti Earthquake Response Fundraiser, started by Lindsey Underwood, for the Mercy Corps. Any amount is welcomed in helping the Mercy Corps supply food, water, shelter, and other supplies to families.
Hope For Haiti, a local organization to Southwest Florida, has been collecting supplies and donations, as well as sending medical personnel and supplies. Which, right now, is desperately needed. PRESS RELEASE
The American red cross has setup a donation through text messaging. Text “HAITI” to 90999 and a donation of $10 will be on your next phone bill.
Also the organization Yele has setup a similar donation. Text “Yele” to 501501 and a $5 donation will be made to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund.
Lehigh Regional Medical Center is teaming up with Dr. Schroering and World Harvest Missions to make sure food and medical supplies get to the people in need in Haiti. They need imperishable food items, over the counter drugs, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and other personal care items, tax deductible donations of money to World Harvest Missions.
The Salvation Army is taking online donations for Haitian relief at salvationarmy.org. In addition, according to CBC News Canadian donors can text donations of $5 by texting “Haiti” to 45678.
Operation Helping Hands, a joint community project of The Miami Herald and United Way-Miami, will be collecting donations to support the relief effort in Haiti. To make a contribution, go to www.iwant2help.org
The Archdiocese of Miami is accepting financial donations to assist with recovery efforts for the earthquake victims in Haiti. People may send their donations to Catholic Charities, 1505 NE 26th St. Wilton Manors, FL 33305, Attention Earthquake Victims.
The Pan American Development Foundation (PADF) — the natural disaster relief arm of the OAS — was asking people who want to donate to visit its special relief website called www.PanAmericanRelief.org.

A Master of His Corner
St. Petersberg, Florida in my eyes is the “Kingdom of the Homeless”. Almost like a zombie movie, but it’s not fear you feel, but rather sympathy. This picture was taken in early 2008. I haven’t returned there in some time. I can only imagine that this image is now a complete norm for everyone up there with the failing economy. This man maybe sharing his bench now with 2 or 3 other people wondering what’s next.
